Prosecutor lobbying in the States, 2015-2018

Citation

The Prosecutors and Politics Project. (2021, June). Prosecutor Lobbying in the States, 2015-2018. UNC School of Law.

The study analyzes the role that prosecutors play in policymaking. The findings show that prosecutors are not passive actors but actively lobby for tougher criminal laws and that bills favored by prosecutors were more than twice as likely to pass compared to average bills. These findings emphasize the need for journalists to be aware of the active and influential role of police and prosecutors in politics, rather than assuming neutrality.
