Designing a public safety beat

Assign students to small groups and ask them to read the articles listed below. Tell students they have been given the opportunity to transform a local newspaper crime beat into a public safety beat. Students should choose new types of stories to cover and be able to explain how they will determine what is newsworthy. Have the groups present their ideas to the full class.
